A volcano is great natural wonder that the world has to offer. Volcanoes at first sight look nothing like but a mountain. The only difference between a mountain and a volcano is the mouth or the peak of both. A volcano has an open peak whereas a regular mountain has closed one. The open peak gives direct access to the Earth’s core. The core features the molten state of the Earth’s matter. The matter is known as lava. Lava is a hot molten fluid that often erupts upon an increase in the earth’s core temperature. The lava erupts and flown down the mountain like a river. Larger explosions cause damage to life and property. The eruption will also throw out a cloud of smoke that surrounds the nearby areas. The smoke soot contains ashes that fall like a snow fall in the nearby areas.
Volcanoes are Classified Under Two Main Categories
- Active volcanoes.
- Inactive/dormant volcanoes.
Active volcanoes are the ones that erupts smoke and lava on a frequent basis. The areas surrounding such volcanoes are always on alert and are monitored on a continuous basis. On the other hand inactive or dormant volcanoes are the ones that have a history of eruptions long time ago. Since then the volcano remained silent. However, this type is widely and often monitored to stop and prepare for any sudden large eruptions.
The volcanoes basically are not spread out worldwide. This is because the molten layer is found at the tectonic plate region of the world. The population residing over the tectonic plates often is subjected to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
